Fruit Pruning Workshop

    Sage's Apples and Ohio State University have offered a fruit pruning class since 2001. Ransom Sage Farm now hosts this popular hands-on class, suitable for all pruning levels. The class includes lecture on small and tree fruit, hands-on pruning instruction in the fields, and lots of interaction with professional fruit growers.
    Berry Session - focusing on the horticultural management of blueberries, raspberries and grapes, including pruning and training systems. Tree Fruit Session - focus on the horticultural management of apples and peaches, including pruning and training systems. (If there is interest, pear, plum, and cherries can be dsicussed.)
    Details: Lectures and workshop will be both inside and outside, from 9am to 3pm. Bring your pruners or loppers and warm layered clothing! Light refreshments will be served inside our heated barn starting at 8:15. Lunch break is from noon-1pm. You are welcome to bring food back to the barn and engage in pruning chats over lunch. (Chardon has many lunch options.)

We will cover all growth habits and give everyone plenty of time to prune, learn, and ask questions!

Blueberries

We prune Blueberries and Raspberries by hand. We will cover all growth habits and give plenty of time to prune and learn.

Dwarf Apple trees

Most of our apple trees are dwarfs and are pruned with these air loppers for quick cuts.

Grapes

Everyone will get to prune a grapevine to 4 cordons on a 2 wire system.
